How to Increase the Speed of Publishing?  For ADI, it was the $750,000 Question

Challenge

Analog DevicesAnalog Devices’ (ADI) Internet channel was made up of 15,000+ pages of product data and other information. With the majority of content hand-authored by various business unit owners, ADI needed to increase the speed of publishing to the site and reduce its costs to do so. The company also needed to better manage the content to improve the quality of ADI’s communication with customers, partners and others.

Approach

Molecular created a single application that enables content owners to
create, manage and publish 100% of their own content to the channel, while providing consistent navigation and categorization of the information for users of the channel. Molecular also improved the usability of the site, particularly where one piece of content might otherwise be valuable in 10- 15 different locations. Success relied on the development of a consistent taxonomy and a content categorization application that would integrate into the content management system and automatically map content submitted by content authors to the taxonomy, create display rules and apply proper labeling to the content. The display rules are used by the content management system to define the final display points and removal of the content. By applying the content intelligence to improve consistency in the content published, the management of content is improved and the search feature of the channel produces better results.

Results

  • Eliminated the outsourced production and management of  content, saving ADI $750,000 over 18 months.
  • Reduced time to publish from an average of four business days to 25 minutes.
  • Improved the user experience of the online channel.
  • Enabled content owners to focus purely on the content, rather than how and when it will be published to the channel.
  • Electronic Design Magazine and Merrill Research rated
the ADI internet channel as the “Best in the Industry.”

"We believe the Web is an essential element to the growth and success of our business. Molecular's content management expertise will help us not only publish content to our site much faster, taking a substantial burden off the content owners, but also realize cost savings."
