Steve Mulder, Director, Emerging Interactions

Steve is the author of The User Is Always Right: A Practical Guide to Creating and Using Personas for the Web, and a regular speaker at web conferences. With over ten years of experience in user research, information architecture, interaction design, and usability, Steve practices what he preaches by delivering successful customer experiences that drive business results. He has brought his expertise to a wide range of companies, including Morgan Stanley, PC Connection, 3M, CVS, Estee Lauder, Talbots, Wired, Terra Lycos, and ZDNet.

Steve is regarded as an industry expert in the user experience field, with speaking engagements at over 25 events in the last five years, including Web Design World, AJAXWorld, and the Information Architecture Summit. Presentation topics include personas, Web 2.0, usability behavior patterns, effective web navigation, search interface design, and CSS. His book on user research and personas was published in September 2006. He is also the author of Web Designer’s Guide to Style Sheets and many articles at HotWired’s Webmonkey.com and Adobe.com.

Steve has been making web sites easier to use and more successful since his early work with Macmillan Publishing and ZDNet University. Later, as an Experience Lead at Razorfish, he led user experience initiatives for clients such as 3M and Estee Lauder.  He joined Terra Lycos in 2001 as Manager of User Experience, and directed a group of information architects and usability researchers in testing sites and implementing best practices for the many sites that were part of Terra Lycos.
