Health Insurer Streamlines Costs by Giving Business Customers the Power to Publish
Challenge
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA), a not-for-profit health
insurer that provides coverage to 2.4 million members, was looking to
automate the content management process for a section of BlueWeb, its
corporate intranet. With considerable content to be managed and few
internal resources, the company relied on outside vendors to code new
areas on the site so that business units could publish their own content,
leading to high operational and development costs. The company engaged
Molecular to implement a solution that would automate internal processes
and reduce labor costs.
Approach
BCBSMA looked to Molecular to implement a solution which would put the power to publish content in the hands of the business unit owners and allow for cost efficiencies. To do so, Molecular leveraged BCBSMA’s existing Interwoven TeamSite and ATG Dynamo software. Working with BCBSMA associates, Molecular designed a system that enables business owners from 23 different business unit areas to create, edit and archive their own content without involvement from technology staff or outside vendors. The design framework co-exists with other intranet applications and allows business users to control content publishing via workflows that automate the business processes within BCBSMA.
Benefits
- Business units within BCBSMA can now deploy content to its intranet site when needed.
- Automation and the creation of business areas reduced the amount of time it takes to create and deploy information from over two weeks to ten minutes.
- Business owners can now design and publish information without technical support, within BCBSMA’s existing architecture.
- Operational costs, connected to the creation and deployment of content, have been reduced.
