New Road Map Puts Hewlett-Packard on the Direct Route to Enhanced Content Management
Challenge:
Throughout Hewlett-Packard (HP) Imaging and Printing Group (IPG)’s
product development process, thousands of pieces of content are created
for use worldwide in support of the product launch and subsequent
marketing. The amount of time and effort required to create and track
content through the system — combined with the increasing number of
new products being introduced and HP’s continual focus on world class
cost structures — is significant. The company wanted to build greater
efficiencies into its content management workflow to ensure continued
delivery of the highest level of customer service.
Approach:
Molecular’s first step was to develop a roadmap to guide the process.
Information from key stakeholders at HP, combined with Molecular’s
expertise in developing content management solutions, resulted in a three year
vision for content management initiatives, governance, resource mapping
and project roadmaps for HP’s IPG. Next came an in-depth analysis
of the IPG’s content landscape, as well as the key aspects of HP’s internal
operations and infrastructure, to identify the organic systems and processes
that could benefit from a more formal content management ecosystem.
Finally, Molecular assessed content management vendors to determine the
appropriate technical solution to meet all of the IPG’s marketing content
creation and planning needs. Molecular’s subsequent recommendations
enabled HP to make an informed decision on the most appropriate tool for
the IPG’s long-term goals.
Benefits:
- Process map provides clear definition of areas for operational
improvement. - Content management strategy and technology scan put HP in a good position to move forward with strategically implementing a content management system, optimized for the group’s specific areas of need.
- Prepared HP’s IPG to take the next steps into the areas of taxonomy development, prototyping and system implementation.
