One Laptop per Child Taps Isobar_Molecular to Create Online Community Hub Connecting Members around the Globe
Isobar Interactive Agency Designs New, Facebook-style Community Site to Facilitate Collaboration on Projects that Bring Educational Tools to Children in Developing Countries
Watertown, Mass., December 8, 2009 —Isobar interactive agency Molecular, Inc. (www.molecular.com) today announced its collaboration with One Laptop per Child (OLPC), a non-profit organization focused on providing educational tools to help children in developing countries “learn learning.” The two organizations are creating a new online community at the OLPC website that will serve as a central resource for the global OLPC members. The OLPC community, currently in beta test phase, will provide greater visibility into projects, helping members easily identify where they can find support or contribute their talents to complete projects more efficiently and with better results.
OLPC approached Molecular to design a platform entirely built on open source tools and technology that could serve as a central resource for global OLPC members. The community site allows members to create a detailed personal profile or a profile for a project or a learning group. The structure allows members to easily find support, post updates, share results and best practices or recruit contributors for a project. The information is easily searchable, so members can quickly find and join groups that interest them.
In subsequent phases of the OLPC community, Molecular will integrate more social features that will help to automate the process of connecting members with projects.
Molecular Senior Vice President Scott Savitt said, “When we began working with OLPC and discovered how many different parties are involved in their great work, we knew we needed to create a tool that uses the social nature of the web to spark greater communication and collaboration. We’re thrilled to help OLPC create an online community site that will move projects to completion faster, getting these laptops and tools into the hands of the children around the world who need them.”
